The low-down: The 400 year old Chateau de l'Aumerade is owned by the famed Grimaldi family and comprises 550 ha under vine. My mother in law attended a vernissage at the Chateau in October of last year and picked up this Cuvee Sully for E 12. This top of the range blanc de blanc is 100% rolle - the same grape in the 2005 and 2011 Chateau Bellet from Bellet near Nice, France that we opened last year. The wine is named after Duke Sully, the Prime Minister to King Henry IV, who founded the estate in 1595.
For Dubai residents, you can find Chateau de l'Aumerade in almost every high-end restaurant from La Petite Maison and Asia Asia, to most restaurants within the Palm One and Only and the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.
The take: A very transparent, very light, lemon with long, slow legs - you can see its going to be heavy. A shy nose with hints of banana, lychee and yellow plum. A fresh attack - plenty of power, pepper, bitterness. With time it becomes smoother and sweeter with hints of caramel - but still strong
In closing: Interesting and atypical.
Rating: 7 out of 10.
