The low-down: Patrice Lesclaux, Export Director at Perelada Wine presented an intimate tasting of their range hosted by Madan Periyasamy, Head Sommelier at the Radisson Blu, Dubai Media City.

Perelada is an estate full of superlatives: an incredibly broad range of Spanish wine including emporda, cava and finca with winemaking dating back to the 14th century. A plethora of other agricultural products including vinegar, oil and Himalayan pink salt (yep!). The estate is crowned by a beautiful, fortified (and unconquered), middle age castle and also comprises a golf course, wine spa (double yep!) and an outdoor amphitheater.

The tasting comprised:

- Masia Peralada Blanco

- Masia Peralada Tinto

- Finca Cuco

- Finca Espolla

- Perelada Cava

The take: The evening began with the Masia Blanco. A clear and light wine with a grapefruit nose. On the attack acidic and sour with a nice, buttery finish.

The Masia Tinto had a leggy, purple appearance and a perfumed, floral nose with hints of marshmallow and yoghurt. The attack was equally acidic, with a spicy, thick, fulsome palate. A meal on its own.

The Finca Cuco was more restrained with a curious nose of fish and fairy floss! On the palate it was spicy, savoury, tannic and fishy! Nevertheless, a clean wine.

The Finca Espolla is the estate's flagship wine built for long ageing. A dense appearance - reflecting the maceration process. A sharp nose. On the palate, solid and tannic, with a nice earthy, citrusy, spicy base.

In closing, the Perelada Cava was a gentle balance of effervescence, sugar and hazelnut.

In closing: Generally wines unafraid of acidity and spice.

Rating:

- Masia Peralada Blanco: 7 out of 10

- Masia Peralada Tinto: 5 out of 10

- Finca Cuco: 7 out of 10

- Finca Espolla: 7.5 out of 10

- Perelada Cava: 7 out of 10
