The low-down: We visited this small, rustic Provence producer in December of last year. They are named after the iris plantations that were grown in the area for perfume. Their cellar door is a bit difficult to find, located near the village of Seillans. The proprietor Anne Dor used to be a vet and acquired the 8 ha plot in 1999. Over the last few months we've opened their Val D'Iris Cuvee Eva 2012 and the Val D'Iris Grand Foudre 2012.
Unlike the Val D'Iris Grand Foudre we tasted last year, this is granted Cotes de Provence status by virtue of its cinsault, syrah blend. At the cellar door this rose will set you back 7.5 Euros.
The take: A very pale, very light copper. A neutral nose with subtle hints of peach. A thick, rich attack. Finish a little abrupt. Plenty of acidity. Creamy, spicy, little fruit.
In closing: Dollops of cream and spice.
Rating: 6 out of 10.
