The low-down: Flores is a sauvignon blanc from Sancerre in the Loire Valley produced by one of its more well-known producers Vincent Pinard. Within Sancerre he grows 17 ha under vine in the hills of Bue, with vines 25+ years old - and produces a range of six dry whites from Sancerre. He is quite the progressive grower harvesting by hand with minimal intervention (no herbicides, pesticides) and ages the wine in tanks not oak.
We were recommended this mid-range wine (14 Euros) by Romain Calzia at the Petite Cave in St Paul de Vence.
The take: A very pale, light, transparent white color. A very light nose: fresh, fruity, green apple, with hints of a savoury/saline structure. A very smooth attack, grapefruit, good spice. Creamy, light, neutral with a thick finish
In closing: Light and fresh.
Rating: 7 out of 10.
