The low-down: Rose has experienced a recent revival in the mainstream and has become an acceptable drink for women, and men. And Provence, in south east France, is the indisputable home of rose.
This number is from a local Provencal co-op. We picked it up retailing in France for less than five euros. The blend is grenache, cinsault and syrah. Unlike the two Bandol we have had recently (Domaine La Suffrene and Domaine Tempier) there is no mourvedre.
The take: A salmon hue, extremely light and pale with low viscosity. On the attack, fruity and floral. Notes of peach, cream, carrot and old leather. A fleshy attack, smooth, with a bit of a bite. However, the wine is a little unstructured and the finish a little weak.
In closing: Opens like crisp, fresh spring but lacks structure and finish.
Rating: 7 out of 10.
