The low-down: Most consider Meursault as one of the top three AOCs for white wine in Burgundy, along with Puligny-Montrachet and Chassange-Montrachet. While to date I haven't had the pleasure of tasting either Montrachet I have to say that my previous tastings of Meursault have been pure pleasure!

Jean-Marc Roulot epitomises the Meursault approach - when asked by a sommelier why he wasn't buying up grand cru vineyards across Burgundy, like many other leading producers, he responded: "Because that is not Meursault. That is not what we do." Famous as it is, Meursault has no Grand Cru vineyards. (Courtesy of: Secrets of the Sommeliers, Rajat Parr & Jordan Mackay)

Chateau de Meursault are one of the bigger producers in Meursault with 60 ha under vine across Burgundy. Having seven years under its belt, this beauty should be peaking about now.

For Dubai residents, Le Clos offers 2009-2011 vintages of Meursault from some top class producers: Leroy, Leflaive, etc.

The take: On appearance, like a typical chardy: lemon yellow, high transparency, low viscosity. On the nose grapefruit dominates, along with peach, corn, flint and burnt toast. On the attack searing acidity which settles with time. In addition sour apple with some spice. However, the finish is abrupt, weak and a little medicinal.

In closing: A steely start let down however by an unstructured finish ... we're a little disappointed.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10.
